I Greased My Scalp While Watching Madame CJ Walker

It may not have been 100 percent historically accurate, but I got my shea butter and watched the miniseries “Self Made”

She went from a washer woman to a self made millionaire in the Jim Crow era.

Addie Munroe was villain of the year

Mr Walker was trifling for having that affair but I understand

Lelia was a lesbian and hated her husband

Madame was neighbors with Rockefeller?

Nothing to Do With Social Distancing? Think Again!

I honestly lost track of how many days we as a nation have been in social distancing. If there were no internet, we might have rioted by now. While at home, there’s a list of things and skills you can do in your bedroom. I’ve started knitting, well failing at it.

Finally learn your passion

I’ve been tinkering with Garage Band. Linkedin Learning has a plethora of resources that can help you pursue your dreams. If you want to sing, there is a video. If you want to code, go on hour of code.

Binge Netflix

There’s a lot of stuff that you can watch on Netflix, original or not. Hulu and Amazon Prime are great options, too.

CLEAN YOUR ROOM!!!

Yup.

Exercise

I’ve been going on walks whenever I’ve felt stiff. If you wanna stay indoors, do some calisthenics. Yoga is a light wake up call for the body.

Beastars Review: How the Season One Plot Melded Very Well

I loved Beastars! Absolutely loved it. I watched it twice and even read the manga so I could keep reading about Legoshi. In a well painted world where humanoid animals all attend school like humans, work like humans and discriminate like humans. Carnivores are treated as monsters and herbivores are viewed as weak.

The story follows a young grey wolf named Legoshi who almost kills a dwarf named Haru on instinct. He leaves a scratch on her in the first episode. Their relationship as predator and prey is defined on that night by the water fountain.

We also have a foil to Legoshi, Louis (or Rouis). He is a red deer who has a stick up his…antlers. A lot of the female student body fawn over him. To Legoshi, Louis is the strongest herbivore he knows but Louis kind of sticks his nose up at him. “Utilize your strength” is something that Louis once told Legoshi.

He comes off as a perfectionist who would even perform on a broken foot just to prove he is worthy of Beastar. He never wants to appear weak no matter what.

He had a harsh childhood as number 4; his product number. Louis was destined to be eaten in the back alley market. With that back story, it makes sense that he tries to be strong and larger than life.

Haru is a small, gentle rabbit who is Legoshi’s main love interest. She is rumored to be a bit promiscuous and loves gardening. She even comes on to Legoshi when she read the room wrong. She’s one year older than Legoshi and always knew deep down that he was the assailant that night.

Tem’s Death

There was an alpaca who was murdered in cold blood that continues to haunt the school throughout the season. He was friends with Legoshi and even had a little love letter that Legoshi encouraged him to give. Not much is known about him besides those previous sentences but his murder led to a rift between the carnivores and herbivores in the school.

Herbivores are terrified of carnivores. There was a scene in episode one where Tem’s crush was terrified of Legoshi until he gave her the love letter. A nice show of how tense the school is and how carnivores are always automatically viewed as a threat.

Haru and Louis’ relationship

Even in intimacy, Louis had sad deer eyes. Their dynamic was simple yet hidden in plain sight. It was shocking to me when I saw this scene of them in bed. But sadly, Louis is already in an arranged marriage. So this is basically a fling before he has to settle down. I never thought that their relationship was serious or official. Because of Haru’s reputation, I thought Louis was using Haru.

Legoshi and Haru’s love

The forbidden fruit. Their friendship literally starts with Haru trying to seduce him! If only Legoshi were more verbal. The only problem is that Legoshi has primal urges that make her want to eat her. The relationship is an oddity especially in the tense landscape of racism towards carnivores.

This dynamic makes sense because it is like Beauty and the Beast. Legoshi tries to befriend her despite his shyness. He debates between what he wants and what he feels is right.

The Back Alley Market

Like any good universe development, Paru Itagaki writes about the Back Alley Market. A black market where herbivore meat can be bought and consumed.

We see a man with missing fingers whose scent overwhelms Legoshi’s nose. As the man offers to sell a finger to him, Bill takes on that offer. This infuriates Legoshi, especially since Bill had rabbit blood at the play Adler.

Not only do two friends fight but two ideologies of veganism and carnivorous sin is brought into question. Legoshi runs away and passes out then meets a panda name Gouhin who is all to familiar with feral animals.

That was a telling tale for Legoshi who never considered that his love may have been feral attraction until Gouhin told him.

Bunny Hentai

I’ll bite. Why didn’t Legoshi hide this better when he has roommates? It’s a good thing his best friend Jack found it first. Though, this scene does shows how Jack will do anything to support Legoshi and has an unconditional understanding.

I still don’t even know if Legoshi even read it, but hey.

Haru’s Kidnapping

Haru’s abduction showcased how the local government will respond in a Shishigumi situation. They value peace over justice. This made me wonder if the mayor had any ties to Shishigumi

After Louis basically sells out to keep his mouth shut about Haru to erase his record of the Back Alley Market, it’s made me question just how much he loved Haru.

With the help of Gouhin, Legoshi takes on a pride of lions.

Beastars deals with the idea of shadow self. Whether it is the inner demons that Legoshi tries to cut off or the monster that killed Tem that is lurking in the shadows.

Haru’s Rescue

After seeing what type of beast Legoshi is capable of being, she hesistantly takes his hand. This is her protector and someone who can seal her fate. But she trusts him nonetheless. All that was communicated in the petrifying moment.

They go to a hotel that night. And the love scene was awkward. Not only was Legoshi cover is scars, Haru tried to enter his body instinctually. I can’t fathom that scene to this day. I understand that it was supposed to highlight that their bodies understand their relationship. But in the wild a rabbit would flee.

Overall

Beastars is a very well produced show and well written manga. If you want me to write about the shock inducing manga, leave a comment.

I Can’t See My Boyfriend Because of Corona

I’m 23 live with my mom who is a nurse and her boyfriend. And they’re both germaphobes.

Haven’t been to church. I haven’t been to choir. Can only talk to my therapist on the phone.

I haven’t seen my boyfriend in weeks. He drove out to see me but my mom wouldn’t let me go. I tried to convince her that I was going for a walk. It was my backpack that gave it away.

I feel like Romeo and Juliet. Without the stupid suicide at the end. I feel more like the balcony scene.

I know coronavirus is serious but I miss my boyfriend so much. We Facetime all day and watch TV together. I’m stuck at home like most Americans but at least I know I’ll see my man one day.

Why You Still Love Him…Even After He Hit You.

When I met the man I thought I loved, I was in a vulnerable place. My antidepressants weren’t working. I wasn’t in school. And to top it off, I wasn’t a nurse (every Haitian dad’s dream). I was too open but that doesn’t take away from him being a great, funny guy!

He was sweet. A one night stand who turned into a soul tie. He showered me in love, gave me the utmost praise, and even had me believe I owed him two iPhones. You read that right. In our one year relationship, I basically fostered and mothered him. All for the hopes of him to get back on his feet and become the man I had always dreamed of.

Silly of me to dream of one day having his kids.

But one day, I made a mistake. I hit him. Yes, he was into rough housing but I hit him. I don’t want to describe what occurred. It still hurts. But when it was over he was sorry he lost control and almost cost me my life. Was this the funny man I loved?

First it was money, then it was insults, then choking. I hid these secrets from my family, friends and coworker. One time he bust my lip through horseplay and I had to wear lipstick for a week. His favorite method of controlling me was choking.

The simplest answer I can give as to why you still love your abuser is because we can separate day from night. It was as if he were an evil twin and Mr Hyde shared a body with your beloved.

Now that I moved on I realized how toxic we were. If went through anything similar, this is not love.

The Quarantine So Far in America and How to Deal

It’s been over a week that the nation went under a unified (a very liberal definition) quarantine. Social distancing became a new phrase and Easter might be cancelled. To be at the mercy of a virus is a bit rattling to say the least.

I only went out to go on my walks, I kept in more touch with my family and streaming became my best friend. I even started reading a manga called ‘Beastars’. I study for my classes online and was already a shut in.

I’m not keeping up with the news unless Trevor Noah gets on his couch from his apartment to let me know what is going on. My mom watches CNN, so I have gotten glimpses of what the mainstream media is saying. I have not monitored Trump’s statements on the coronavirus damage control.

We don’t know when we will go back to school, work and church. But what I do know is that this is a time to best utilize for preparation.

The stock market is falling. Businesses are in hibernation. Now is the time in our winter to buy a stock, make a business plan and get your meditation on. Call your family, eat your vegetables and take your vitamins. And most important of all: learn how to be alone.

Introduce Yourself (Example Post)

This is an example post, originally published as part of Blogging University. Enroll in one of our ten programs, and start your blog right.

You’re going to publish a post today. Don’t worry about how your blog looks. Don’t worry if you haven’t given it a name yet, or you’re feeling overwhelmed. Just click the “New Post” button, and tell us why you’re here.

Why do this?

  • Because it gives new readers context. What are you about? Why should they read your blog?
  • Because it will help you focus you own ideas about your blog and what you’d like to do with it.

The post can be short or long, a personal intro to your life or a bloggy mission statement, a manifesto for the future or a simple outline of your the types of things you hope to publish.

To help you get started, here are a few questions:

  • Why are you blogging publicly, rather than keeping a personal journal?
  • What topics do you think you’ll write about?
  • Who would you love to connect with via your blog?
  • If you blog successfully throughout the next year, what would you hope to have accomplished?

You’re not locked into any of this; one of the wonderful things about blogs is how they constantly evolve as we learn, grow, and interact with one another — but it’s good to know where and why you started, and articulating your goals may just give you a few other post ideas.

Can’t think how to get started? Just write the first thing that pops into your head. Anne Lamott, author of a book on writing we love, says that you need to give yourself permission to write a “crappy first draft”. Anne makes a great point — just start writing, and worry about editing it later.

When you’re ready to publish, give your post three to five tags that describe your blog’s focus — writing, photography, fiction, parenting, food, cars, movies, sports, whatever. These tags will help others who care about your topics find you in the Reader. Make sure one of the tags is “zerotohero,” so other new bloggers can find you, too.
